Notes From The Parent Alliance Board Meeting

Governance - Parent Alliance

Tuesday August 18th 2009

· The first Parent Alliance Board Meeting of the new school year was held on August 18th2009.

· The Board discussed how to be of help for the first upcoming Flea Market and Crafts Fair to be held on Saturday the 22nd and every third Saturday of the month thereafter.

· A Chaucer’s fundraiser will be set up hopefully around the holidays.

· At the last meeting the Board donated $119 to each classroom to help with supplies and this meeting it was discussed how Teacher’s will account for the donation.

· The Parent Alliance Board is working hard to reduce the amount of paper used at our school. In this effort the Board is working out a system of class coordinators to help get school information out electronically.

· Increasing school communication and building a greater sense of community is a priority of the Parent Alliance.

· The Back to School BBQ is set for Sept. 8th. The Parent Alliance Board members will be introduced at the BBQ.

· The importance of getting the school directory completed and distributed early in the year was discussed.

· The Parent Alliance Board also discussed ways to increase parent participation at our school. This topic will be further discussed at the next meeting.

· The Middle school program operating with two classrooms is fully enrolled.

· Santa Barbara Charter School is working out a program to receive school lunch from Goleta Valley Junior High. This program should be worked out and up and running early in the school year.

· The Parent Alliance Board voted to fund the Alternatives to Violence program for the Middle School. This program was introduced last year and was met with a lot of enthusiasm.

· The first General Meeting of the Parent Alliance will be held on Thursday Sept. 24th at 6:30 pm. The Board meeting will follow directly after at 8pm.
