Culminating Eighth Grade Activities

Project Heart’s Desire (PHD)

Project Heart’s Desire is an opportunity for eighth grade students to explore an interest, embrace a challenge, and work towards a personal goal.  With the help of an advisor, each eighth grade student identifies a project and works towards its completion throughout the year.  The student works with a mentor who supports her/his learning.  The complete project includes six steps:  Project Goals, Research, Action Plan, Action/Artifact, Journal, Presentation.

Internships

“Real work” is important to adolescent development.  Our eighth grade students identify an interest, choose a work setting, and intern for one week.  At the end of the week, they receive an evaluation from their employer and perform a self-evaluation as well.
